this is an honest breakdown of the low toxic changes that made sense for our family + the ones we chose not to stress about.
practical, non-overwhelming swaps for real life.
i’ve tried branch basics, castile soap, meyer’s, rosy from thrive market and then some. i also have a thrive market membership and have used various brands from there including rosey, which i do kind of like. BUTTT i personally have an immesnse trust in the texas chain store, heb. if you know, you know. in fact, most of our organic items come from their store brand. (topic for another time)
while trying different brands, i’ve come to learn that i am extremely aware of scents because we cut out fragrances. anything scented is a gamble of being overwhelming or giving me a headache. i liked the fact that branch basics and castile soap were a one stop shop for everything. literally everything and i could have them both on a subscription. the only problem with them was, i honestly did not care how they preformed across the house. they left streaks on my mirrors no matter how hard i tried to avoid, they created a slip and slide on my tile floors if anything was spilled on them and i had to keep way too many bottles around to have something for everything.
when heb announced they were coming out with a new brand, field and future, i was ecstatic. a clean, low toxic brand. now, if you are new here, the goal isn’t perfect. {& it should never be, stress is worse in the end} part of this entire kitchen is blooming in balance. the whole collection is something i’ve used since it came out now. i use the disinfectant, multi-purpose spray, wipes, training pants/diapers, and more. i fully love their sponges too. or the natural scrub daddy plain scrubies.
for dishwasher soap, we love blueland tablets. i really do like these. they can leave a little powder residue sometimes, but nothing a quick rinse can’t take care of. for laundry soap, you can probably guess, we use the one we sell. linked here. i make a giant batch of it probably every six-ish months if i had to guess. if my blue collar husband’s work clothes need an extra oomph, we use revive immunity liquid detergent. there’s a few reasons why i choose the immunity: not only does it smell refreshing and good, it helps keep his immunity good while working having to go in various cars where people can harbor their sickness.
if you’re beginning to swap toxic things out of your home, my first recommendations are between cleaning products and hygiene products. {that under the assumption, food was the first} i believe that cleaning products and hygiene are the next priority because they will come into contact with your skin daily.
hygiene products can be a bit more tough to suggest, just because everyone wants to accomplish a different level of low/non toxic. i will go more in depth about hygienic products in another blog. for now, let’s recap.
top stores & products:
multipurpose/disinfectant + so much more: heb field and future
sponges: heb & scrub daddy dye free
dishwasher tablets: blueland (can get at heb and get a good deal with their usual coupons OR snag a better deal on amazon)
laundry soap: can purchase through me here
immuntity boosting laundry soap: revive or amazon
the most important thing to take away from this is to not overkill your budget. the goal is to swap them out when one runs out and then replace as you go. don’t just use what every influencer is using, just because they posted it. brand deals are incredible and all, but, i’ve truly noticed various celebs/influencers getting brand deals for brands they’ve not really used prior or magically just started using. it is really disappointing. try out different brands, see what fits your budget and compare to see which one works best for your household. as always, i hope you enjoyed this blog!
