let’s be honest, i spend a good portion of my days in the kitchen. as state farm says, we know a thing or two.

the kitchen is one of my happy places. i love filling it with things that bring both functionality and style. nothing that just sits there. everything serves a purpose.

dishes
i love stoneware for anything we eat off of. i don’t overthink it too much. if it’s stoneware or ceramic, i’m happy. if it chips or cracks, it’s gone. simple as that.

silverware + cookware
all of our silverware is stainless steel, which naturally carries over into our cookware.

cast iron and stainless steel are what we use the most for everyday cooking. they’re reliable, long lasting, and just work. i do love ceramic for certain baking dishes, but stainless steel is still my top favorite. it cleans easily and gives a really uniform feel to everything i bake.

also, let’s be honest, they are safer with children and pets around. you dropped it, no big deal. you might get a dent but not likely.

don’t get me wrong, during our long move, paper plates are the move and so is plastic silverware. sometimes you just do what works for the season you’re in.

utensils
this one really depends on what i’m making. i have a mix of stainless steel, silicone spatulas, and handmade wooden spoons. each one has its place.

but if i’m reaching for something without thinking, it’s usually stainless steel.

constant favorites
there are a few things i reach for almost daily.

the spatula from figmint at target is one of them. i have two and would probably grab a third without hesitation. in fact, i need to because i used one so much i am on the verge of breaking it. i have had it since they dropped the line though, and to be frank, i cook a lot… did i mention that?

their stainless steel whisks are just as good.

my stainless steel baking sheet set is used almost every night. it’s seasoned well at this point and holds up to everything i throw at it. it’s especially great for things like cheesecake. it keeps everything level and helps prevent burning. (please don’t let my next one burn because i wrote that)

and i’ve been loving my instant pot gadget for cappuccinos and lattes. it’s one of those things that just makes the day feel a little slower and more intentional. especially while my stove is gone and i can’t use that to heat up my milk.

when it comes to dough, i switch between a wooden roller and a stainless steel one depending on what i’m making. both have their place and both get used often.

what i don’t use

anything straight plastic or nylon.

i tend to stay away from plastic because one, plastic melts. two, i leave things on the stove too often… and three i just don’t want to consume it.

i also stay away from nylon. a lot of it can be made from recycled materials like electronic plastics, and i don’t want that anywhere near my food or my family.

i also try to avoid anything that fits the budget but won’t actually last. i don’t want my kitchen full of niche. single use gadgets either. if i bring something in, i want it to serve more than one purpose.

my kitchen aid mixing bowl is a perfect example. it can do a thousand things… even if I still end up using my tried and true hands most the time. old habits can be a tad hard to break.

the heart of it all

my kitchen is truly the heart of my home. i love for it to be clear of clutter, functional and beautiful. that is why every gadget or tool i bring into has to fit my intentions. i need functionality, durability, quality and obviously beauty.

the things in my kitchen matter to me. they’re not just tools. they’re part of the rhythm of our days.

with all that being said, the things in my kitchen, i care a lot about. it’s full of things i hope i can pass down and create generations of use. i hope for everything to fill homes with more love. they may not all be the fine china, but everything is built to last. the generations will know that.

i want them to last. to be passed down. to carry stories with them.

because right now, my days look like cups of tea i keep reheating, two loaves of sandwich bread on the counter, dozens of rolls cooling, homemade pop tarts in progress, maybe a s’mores cheesecake if i’m feeling ambitious, and a sink that somehow filled itself again. (in reality i know it was just me and my family)

my dishes will last to explain the chaotic stories, the new recipe that was brilliant & the one that wasn’t. the time mama burned a ghost on her chest because she dropped the pan on herself. or the time i whipped up together a minion cake because that was the request of the day.

if nothing else, that’s my goal and that’s my story for my generations to come.

i’m just giving y’all a glimpse into my story and what i use.
